Make sure you’re in the trend zone this spring
I love when we start getting close to springtime. You can air out the house, ditch all the winter clothes and start thinking about the sunshine, sitting outside and all the other great summery things we can do. The other thing at the forefront of my thought is “what am I going to wear?” In this blog, we’ll look at the hottest trends for Spring/Summer 2018
Sequins and Sparkles
Sequins, sparkles and glitter are all going to be massive trends with Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford Dior, Chanel and Gucci all showcasing the style. Combines with the Kirakira app prepare to see your Instagram feed full of sparkly clothes this spring.
Pastel shades in lilac, duck egg blue, lemon and pink are amongst the shades that are on trend this summer. Ice cream colour suits and jackets are really cute items to have in your wardrobe this spring.
Checks, plaid or tartan – whatever you want to call them – are back with a vengeance this season. Burberry (of course!), Victoria Beckham and Sonia Rykel all showed the style. Flowing coats, power suits and gilets are all rocking the checked look this spring.
Plastic is everywhere this spring with Chanel, Isabel, Burberry, Calvin Klein and Fendi all showing the plastic look in their SS shows. Whether it’s transparent plastic shoes, boots, hats and bags (transparent bags are going to be one of the most popular items of the season) or coloured plastic in dresses and accessories, you better get used to looking at the material.
Fringing might be associated with cowboy jackets and country music, but this is one of the more surprising trends that made it onto the catwalk. Designers such as Bottega Veneta, Loewe and Saint Laurent all showed this style with Rihanna already wearing the latter’s fringed boots.
Vibrant, bold colours are going to be big if the shows from Christopher Kane, Stella McCartney and Roksana Ilinic’s shows are anything to go by. Bright colours like Gen Z yellow are going to be brightening up our streets, and good I say, there’s not enough colour in the world.
The transparent look has already been mentioned in the plastics section, but the trend of transparency doesn’t end there. Sheer materials are very much on trend with “naked dress, skirts and coats all making appearances on the catwalks. My favourite example of this style is the sheer polo neck tops. Expect to see them everywhere this summer.
Ruffles are a hugely feminine look and were featured in the catwalk shows of Valentino, Erdem, Alexander McQueen and Givenchy. Dresses with style will be everywhere. Look out for bold colours and lace, which are super cute.
On paper having two bags seems insane, but how many people have you seen (including me) that carry about a handbag and a tote bag. Well, as it turns out the catwalks have been copying our style. The double bag trend was everywhere at the shows with designers including Chanel, Dolce and Gabbana and Gucci showing models carrying multiple bags.
These styles are going to be available soon on the high street from all good retailers. I always like to check online for savings from Groupon, where I’ve found great value in the past.
